I need to buy eggs for breakfast. I woke up this morning with that thought in my mind, and this question:
If you couldn’t shop for food at a grocery store, where would you get it?
It prompted me to write this piece because I remembered working at Career Hackers (formerly “Crash”), and us asking job seekers: “If you couldn’t use a resume, how would you prove yourself?”
These types of questions are really important, and I offer you this challenge:
Try not to buy any food from a grocery store for the next 30 days.
Challenge yourself to only buy food from local suppliers. Where do you go?
Farmers markets, locally owned butcheries, services like Farmish and Homegrown… these come to mind immediately.
I’m going to be doing this challenge myself for the next month, and learning:
- how much money it costs to buy all my food locally
- what products I can’t find locally at all
